Jundah is the administrative centre of the Barcoo Shire - one of the largest shires in Queensland. The population (of Jundah) fluctuates between 70 and 80. Jundah has many recreational facilities including a golf course, race track, a beautiful park, sports complex and swimming pool. Fishing and canoeing on the beautiful Thomson River is a favourite pastime for both locals and tourists.
During the cooler months of the year we have many tourists from all over Australia and from other countries around the world camped either in town or down at the river enjoying the hospitality and serenity of the local environment.
Many tourists return year after year to enjoy all our shire has to offer. Whether you're fishing (and catching some yellowbelly) or just reading a book and lazing around, the peace and tranquility is very appealing.
Boarding school students come home for holidays and use this time to catch up with family and to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle. Their favourite pastimes are fishing and swimming in the Thomson River with their mates and motorbike riding on the town common.
